SOUTH BAY CHAPTER
May Meeting: (2nd Tuesday)
Date: Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Kawai America
2055 East University Drive
Rancho Dominguez Hills, CA
Last month we had the pleasure of hearing from Michael Kemper with his
program titled, "Demystifying Electric Player Systems.” For the luddites among
us, that means making sense of the modern player piano. Michael revealed not
only the history but also many of the intricacies of this species of animal.
These intricacies involve the weaving together of analog and digital technology.
Some of these components woven together and discussed by Michael were the
solenoid at the back of the key, the driver transfer system, power supply
system, CPU, media sources (including MIDI), and many more new terms for the
recently introduced. As promised, it was indeed quite enlightening. Thank you,
Michael, for presenting this very informative program and making sense of the
modern player piano.
As for our May meeting, we will welcome Michael Campi and his program titled, "Fit to Tech." Every day in our lives we stress our bodies in a thousand different ways, and in this new program Michael will demonstrate how to deal with that stress and come out on top. Our bodies are only as strong as the weakest link and, often, we are not prepared to deal with that fact when we get injured. What we will discuss and Michael demonstrate is a relatively new fitness model and how you can incorporate it into your life to be healthier, stronger and more injury proof than you ever thought possible.
